A bar of soap is mostly solid, but it is not waterproof. Every time it sits in a pool of water between uses, the outer layer softens, dissolves a little, and washes away before you even pick it up. Do that every day for two weeks and you have quietly poured a real chunk of the bar down the drain without ever using it.
