Menstrual cups have been around for quite some time, recently gaining mainstream attention as a serious alternative to tampons. Our founder Shay has been using one for nearly 20 years when a friend bought one home for her from overseas! Needless to say, we are massive fans of menstrual cups in general and love MyCup because of it’s comfortable shape and it’s NZ made cred.

A Beginner's Guide to Using Your Menstrual Cup
If you're new to using a menstrual cup, you might feel a little overwhelmed. But don't worry, we've got you covered! Here are some simple steps to follow to make sure you're using your cup correctly and comfortably.
Sterilising Your Cup
Before your first use, it's important to sterilise your menstrual cup. There are a few methods you can use, such as using sterilising tablets, microwaving, or boiling it on the stove.
Inserting Your Cup
To insert your menstrual cup, start by washing your hands with soap and water. You can also rinse your cup with warm water to make it more pliable and easier to insert. Next, fold your cup using one of two popular methods: the tulip fold or the C-fold. Then, gently insert the folded cup into your vagina, making sure it's fully open by feeling the base. If you feel any discomfort, try adjusting the position or the fold until it feels comfortable.
Removing Your Cup
To remove your menstrual cup, first, relax and find a comfortable position. Using your pelvic muscles, gently push the cup down until you can reach the stem. Then, gently wriggle the stem until you can grab the base of the cup. Pinch the base to break the seal and remove the cup carefully to avoid spillage. Make sure to empty and wash your cup thoroughly before reinserting it.
Remember, it's important to sterilise your cup before and after each cycle, and to change it every 4 to 8 hours. With a little practice and patience, using a menstrual cup will be a comfortable and eco-friendly option for your period.
